heavy metal lover

Photobucket

Anyone listening to GaGa's Born This Way album? My favorite song happens to be the inspiration for this post. The song is so perfectly catchy and singable. Love the beat. Can't wait for the video, hoping it's going to be better than the Edge of Glory video. I think I will support GaGa on a lot of things because I really love her (even though like everyone she has her faults) but lately she hasn't really moved me. Not like she used to. Anyway, I have hope for this song. I have my fingers crossed.

Today was spent with Jeff's Mom, who is an absolute hoot, and Melanie, who I'm sad won't be staying in the province for much longer than the day after next. We won't see her again until April. It's pretty sad. We're seeing her off with an early supper tomorrow, and then we are having Alyssa and Alan over again... More hair pictures. What would you like to see next?

are you wishing for the right thing?

Photobucket
Positive thinking is a deliberate action. You can do it too.

I'M WISHING... VS I'M THANKFUL...

I'M WISHING I had more time to put into my blog, so that my pictures would look professional and easy, so that I could reach my full potential and try some of the many ideas I have been so willing to share.
I'M THANKFUL for my daughter, who soaks up my time like a sponge, and our play times, where we realize how much we love each other and how different our lives would be if we didn't have each other. I'm thankful that I have her as often as I do. If I had her less, you can guarantee that I'd be more upset about loosing her than being happy over the time I would be putting into being a narcissist.

VERDICT: today I'm thankful I'm wishing

The truth is, I'm lucky to have a daughter to spend my days with. I have a beautiful life that is waiting to be enjoyed. How could I possibly waste it by sifting through negative thoughts? The more you add to your plate, the less room you have on it. Rocket science, I know, but once that is applied to your life... Sit and think. Prioritize. The minute my little girl tugs on my pants and says "Mommy! Up?" I may finish what I'm doing, but I never turn her down. I refuse to be the person that says "Wait" or "Maybe tomorrow" or "Not right now". Those words lead you straight to one thing: MISSING OUT ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT. These things don't last forever. I won't always have her as often as I do. I'll loose her to other things: spending time with her huge family, her friends, her school work, her life. Mommies don't often stay the center of attention, you know. ENJOY IT. I laugh at the people who scold me for still (sometimes) sleeping with my daughter (she's 18 months old) because ONE, who do you think you are to scold me and TWO, they obviously don't have what I have! I love the cuddles. I love listening to her sing along when I'm singing her to sleep. I love when she falls into fits of laughter when she's supposed to be sleeping. I love when she dozes off lying on my chest. Most of all, I love the way she will slide into the nook of my shoulder, hugging me tight with one leg sprawled over me (then I usually have to get out of there before she turns into her usual sleeping self: the bed ninja, girl of many kicks and punches). No one can tell me this is wrong; WE HAVE A BOND. I slept with my mother for 9 (okay, maybe... 7) months when I was pregnant because I felt loved and secure and that everything was going to be okay.
(PS: in case you're wondering, Baby doesn't need me to sleep with her anymore and hasn't for months now, but I would be lying if I said I didn't occasionally sneak in for a cuddle)

So back to wanting to be a fashion blogger/musical mommy diva. Blogging? I'm sure it will always be around. I stress thinking I need to have my posts up daily, but truth is... if you're getting sick of waiting on me because I'm spending time with my daughter or the other love of my life, my wonderful man, well, there are a thousand other bloggers who would love to have your attention.

PHOTO: PREVIEW OF A PHOTOSHOOT ALYSSA TOOK FOR HER HAIR STYLING PORTFOLIO. Frustrated with my makeshift lighting. Maybe for Christmas someone who loves me could gift me some lights. HOWEVER... that stuff isn't important. Forces me to be creative!

Pop over here and see Sharon's tips on styling her children. Wow. They are the cutest things I've ever seen.

today's goal: be happy, get some sleep. enjoy the day.

Yesterday was a bit of a blur, and not the good kind... We had a hard day so I really need to make a point to focus on staying happy. After all, positive thinking is an active choice, not something we are born with. Takes effort and sometimes I forget that, but not today. The sun is shining and my girl is home so here's to enjoying it.

I am undecided as to whether I like this skirt. It's pretty short. I wish it was just above the knee... because I love the color. I'm gravitating towards more modest or bohemian style skirts lately. I think this outfit is cute but I normally don't like wearing things that I have to constantly worry about: there's nothing worse than being in public constantly hauling down your skirt. The devil of online shopping is you don't really know how it's going to look on you until you get it. But it's in the challenge because I wasn't wearing it. I have some more ideas yet, but if they don't work, it'll be in the giveaway pile.

Gotta run!
Have a great Friday everyone!
I really appreciate all your comments the past few days: I'll write back to every one. Thank you so much.

feels like home

Bloglovin is addicting. How do you keep up with it? I guess you can't. I find it overwhelming to see (487) new posts at the top of my screen every time I go in. I find the categories helpful. I have some daily reads. I have some blogs I give extra love to because they totally deserve it. What do you do to follow your favorite blogs?

I wrote the little note on Tuesday. It was such a beautiful relaxing day. (I did not wear this Tuesday. I stole those pictures from an earlier post, same location. Click the picture for the original post.)

I like sketching outfit ideas. When I had the time to sketch a lot, I stuck to sketching girls and clothing.

This week I thrifted...

Here's a sneak peak of my next outfit post. I scored this envelope purse (wearing it as a clutch here) at a Garage sale. 1$. Seriously? It is gorgeous. So gorgeous.

slipping into fall

Today I braved it and set the tripod up outside with my Nikon. I was able to fiddle with it since the baby was gone for a few hours on a week day (this also means we are able to do something this weekend with her, which makes me really excited). I wasn't alone: there were people gawking across the street for a while, and I got caught by my sister in law-ish (it's complicated!) who played a cameo in today's post!

It was so nice out but when Baby came home we didn't get to go outside. I'm usually so good with taking her out when it's nice. I feel guilty. I cooked a big supper and it takes me about an hour and a half to get supper on the table so we didn't really have time. You know, speaking of all this, I'm going to take her out for a half hour before she goes to bed! I'm sure you understand!

Here's the 30x30 outfit I wore today; it was super windy! So strong it was blowing my necklace around! Ps. I was thinking of Kileen's color brigade when I got dressed today ;)

When I was a kid, when I used to dream about being a star, when I used to act out Disney movies scene by scene, I used to live on this rock. My favorite pastimes were pretending that I was a mermaid, stretching my limbs out and lying in the sun, or standing on the rock with my arms flinging wide and my voice soaring over the lake (not so beautiful in person, I was a 11 year old girl screaming Pocohantas lyrics) pretending to be the princess of the tribe. I loved (still love) the feeling of wind rushing my hair back, clothes fluttering, eyes shut tight so I could remember every sense. It was the best feeling, my most favorite memory. It's funny how most of my favorite childhood memories were in solitude. What does that say about me?

walk the talk

Guys, I have a confession to make. When I was getting dressed, I knew I had to wear this dress today because it was warm and I need to cross it off my 30x30... except I got on this red kick and forgot to wear my nude shoes. This means... it's technically not a 30x30 outfit, but I'm going to include it anyway and bend the "rules" a bit. I'm just glad I'm halfway there. I might even be done before Kendi starts her next challenge.

Hair - still rocking yesterday's do

Today was spent with family. There's nothing more I cherish than days spent with the ones I love. I spent time with my mother and father, went out to lunch with Jeff's mother and sister, and Jeff's dad brought me down supper. Spoiled, aren't I? I watched my daughter run around her Poppy's garden, following the fence with her hands, curious and independent (two wonderful words), swing on swings and enjoy huge belly laughs that make my heart melt. There's no greater love in the world than the love you have for your own. It's really different than anything you've ever felt prior to having children. Before her, I was completely content sitting by the ocean, coffee in hand, enjoying the solitude, lost in my thoughts. I'm a different person now; my idea of home and feeling complete is the feeling I have when I'm lying next to her. She curls up in a sweet little ball, draped over my waist, snoring like an ogre, smelling like lavender, and I doze off myself just because of how at home I feel. I love my man too. He ties everything together, makes me feel strong. I am my family. I have some friends who would kill me for saying that because of how dependent it sounds... but love really does that to you. I haven't lost myself. If anything, I have to say I'm more myself than I've ever been.

hope everyone had a happy relaxing Sunday,
Courtney

craving satisfied: suede skirt

I saw Sincerely, Jules wearing this lovely skirt from Forever 21 on this post.

So I went on the Forever 21 website (even though I'm not allowed to buy anything off it) just to see the price... it was 30$ on the canadian site.

So Maegan and I went thrifting yesterday and look what I found in my size:

Photobucket

Photobucket

All of this cost me 15$ when I went to the cash. This week I thrifted...

- Red leather skirt (7$)
- Brown suede skirt (4$)
- Vintage silk scarf (4$)

Ah, so nice. So glad I didn't cave and buy the skirt when I saw that post! Although I do love that rust color...

Then I spent this morning reading about bed bugs and now I want to cry and throw them out. (I won't; I'm just being dramatic...) I don't live in a place that's affected by them... However, I'm still freaking out. Right now all my thrifted unwashed items are sitting in a tied up bag in my garage waiting to go to the dry cleaners on Monday. It'll be worth it...

back to the basics

Maegan and I went thrifting today and found some pretty sweet finds. I'll show you in a post tomorrow (pretty excited about it actually) and you will proud. We had an awesome time. Pizza for lunch; the man with the awesome Bulgarian accent gave us free dipping sauce. Can't say no to that. Found a garage sale on the way home... Can't say no to that either.  I got the best stuff (thank you Maegan, IOU). You'll have to wait on those. Can't give too much away. I found some DIY projects.

Oh, and a sewing machine for 20$. I have no idea how to sew. I learned in 9th grade but that has been forgotten. Online tutorials? Anyone want to share their knowledge? I'm pretty crafty so I'm thinking it should be fun to learn.

This 30x30 is HARD! How does Kendi do it? How has she done it so many times! I'm not even doing it for 30 consecutive days... Every time I go to the 30 items, I look around me and find something else in my closet that I love and want to wear. That tells me... the challenge is great. Just hard.

Results: This is how my hair turned out after yesterday's french ponytail do. I straightened my bangs a little, but you don't have to do that. Your hair shouldn't be frizzy if you add Moroccan Oil or Small Talk to your ends before you attempt it (I tried to smooth it with hairspray this morning; these pictures were taken after our long day of thrifting so it held up okay). I forgot the products yesterday (rushing, tired) but doing this to achieve a wave is a great alternative to a braid if you don't know how to do them. I also find sometimes braids get smaller and frizzy on the bottom, so if you want something even and more natural-kinky, here ya go! Also, I'm no hair stylist; I know how to achieve looks in the laziest way possible. Best thing ever: Shower, throw in a few ponytails, sleep, wake up, la la la, hair is done.

What do you do with your hair when you're just having a lazy day?

Until tomorrow,
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

you can't go wrong with stylish comfy

You can't go wrong with a stylish comfy outfit. Today we went out to lunch and went to the park. It was a great day. I got a few looks wearing this. Apparently Newfoundland doesn't appreciate my shorts. But who cares. They are high waisted, pleated, lace shorts! Lots of good stuff. I'll admit I was a little afraid to wear these today due to the fact they are ivory and 1. I had salsa today and 2. I was in a park full of grass 3. I'm the clumsiest person alive... but they survived.

I'm very new to thrift shopping... but after I got this shirt for a dollar I think I may be hooked. Everything except my shorts cost less than 10$ individually. Pretty awesome!

This is inspired by Krystal's post Olive and Lace. She says "I love pairings that seemingly make no sense together". True... I used a floral chunky necklace to tie the outfit together. Coral lipstick to compliment the little pops of color in the necklace. I loved that all my accessories had antique gold polish. Matchy matchy. This hair thing... I'm trying this out to see how my hair waves when I take it out tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out. Oh, and a leopard scarf. I don't know, it seemed to fit. Now I need to take care of supper clean up, bath time, bed time and then I can relax... I mean, sleep. Same thing.

Hope you have an exciting Friday for me ;)
